Mozilla presently has a dedicated version of Firefox browser specifically targeted at the Microsoft Store on Windows 11, and today, the company presented the initial update with this version.
Firefox 94.0.2 therefore comes with an improvement for Windows 11 users, as it resolves a bug causing the browser to hold when certain assistive technology was used.
Apart from that, this is just a minor release, and the small version number increase obviously points in this regard.
Firefox in the Microsoft Store
Mozilla launched Firefox in the Microsoft Store earlier this month, with the company praising Microsoft for the improvements it designed to the shop experience.
Following a debut of Windows 11, which will come with a substantially refined Microsoft Store, the software giant also allows browsers that are published here to use their very own engines. In other words, browsers that are published in the Microsoft Store don't need to use the native Windows engine but use their own, and this means fewer changes are needed on the app's side.
Mozilla applauded the change, explaining the Microsoft Store is definitely heading in the right direction.
"Until recently, Microsoft's store policies required that all browsers use the engine that Microsoft had built into their platform which meant i was unable to ship the Firefox you know and love in the Windows Store. It was not just bad for you but bad for the net because it resulted in the net on Windows 11 would only have the characteristics Microsoft was prepared to provide. People deserve choice and we're glad it comes with an easier choice to download Firefox on Windows," Mozilla said.
"Now that Microsoft is different their policies, we're finally able to ship Firefox with our industry-leading Gecko engine within the Windows Store."
